Happy Mountain, Sad Mountain
Using narrative structure from both factual and imaginary material as the foundation to my work, I use literary account, photographic archives and film footage as a point of reference. Drawing parallels between my quest as an artist and what drives me with that of an adventurer and explorer I have been evidencing myself within the archives of this ‘New Age of Discovery’, predominantly through painting and video installation.
Creating a reality based on a layman’s scientific understanding, I use low-tech methods to interpret and recreate phenomena and events. The process, absorption and theatre involved in production, creates a borderland between the imaginary and the real, where the act of pretending and believing is addressed.
