Pascual Sisto's practice often refers to chaotic systems, order, time and evanescence; his work reproduces the transient order of things by manifesting its multiple variables.
In FILL_IN_THE_BLANKS, his first show at Seventeen, the LA based artist presents his recent exploration of forms of representation through the use of mathematical structures, patterns, and digital interventions, while repurposing the imagery and modus operandi from the realm of theoretical physics.
The new body of work introduces a tension between constraint and infinity, matter and ephemerality, reality and fiction, featuring a melancholic sense of humor. New 3D animations and sculptures are presented in unison, functioning as hypnotic elements and forces of attraction in the creation of non-spaces.
By containing and restricting forms through additive and reductive gestures, Sisto's practice reconfigures the idea of endless possibilities. The video elements in the exhibition constitute a passage between Sisto's previous and current production and represent ethereal realities conversely focusing on the versatility of time, stressing it while defining it through either interruption, synchronicity, or pulsation and perpetually transfixed into a liminal space.

Pascual Sisto was born in 1975 in Barcelona, Spain, and lives and works in Los Angeles.

bubblebyte.org is pleased to present Instructors, a solo exhibition by French artist Sylvain Sailly.

Over the past five years, Sylvain Sailly has worked with multimedia installations that combine prints, video work, and sculptural objects. His work explores the dematerialisation of systems and procedures diffused in contemporary society, highlighting invisible processes in production which transform into the practical and meaningful. Sailly’s practice researches the notion of hidden differences between objects and their abstraction, and the way these differences elude direct investigation.

Instructors, the artist’s first solo show at bubblebyte.org, follows the research on imperceptible variations and takes the form of an on-line series of semi-autonomous 3D animations created exclusively for bubblebyte.org. The series adds to the artist’s personal web diagrams collection and functions as an extension of his site-specific and gallery work.

Codes and aesthetics of Internet video tutorials inspire the six digital happenings presented in the show as Google Sketch up files (.skp) paired with animated gifs created as an instructional tools. The work which requires the participation of the viewer in order to activate, is constituted by 3D model objects. As these schematized objects are made and unmade, their simple and even barren graphics emphasize the mechanics, deployment and assembly of their fifteen-second life-cycle. The objects’ function, its capacity to impart a use, comes to the fore, as well as the means and occasion to manipulate this function. Building and unbuilding, processing and unprocessing, the work investigates the relationship between recognition and simulative enactment.

lives and works in Vancouver

Sylvain Sailly holds a BA Plastic Art at the École Européenne Supérieure de l’Image, and an MFA in Plastic Expression at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Paris-Cergy, Cergy, France .

Sailly’s minimal and alive work focuses on the internet and its elements of production and disruption raising questions of duration and conservation. His work has been shown locally and internationally, and recently included in exhibitions as The Unspeakable Compromise of the Portable Work, Or Gallery off-site project, Vancouver, Canada, Sylvain Sailly and Nicolas Sassoon at The Fair, Vancouver, Canada both in 2011, Et si tu n'existais pas..., Galerie TinBox, Bordeaux, France, 2010, Jakarta Biennale‘09 Fluid Zones, Jakarta, Indonesia, 2009, and Portion roulante à 43° W Today Art Museum, Beijing, China, just to name a few.

bubblebyte.org is pleased to present Another Infinity, a solo exhibition by UK artist Paul Flannery.

The work of Paul Flannery looks at the decoration of the Internet and its early aesthetics.

Using ornamental elements, often produced by amateurs, as icons, background images and memes, Flannery’s work is a deep analysis about digital time and beauty.

Through detournement and re-vision of various popular web. 2.0 features, Flannery creates colorful geometric work which activates new relationships in terms of trends and chronologies, possibilities and advancement.

Another Infinity, the first solo show of the artist on bubblebyte.org, presents a series of works inspired by a (11 frame, 1 x 600px) Rainbow divider, an animated gif ubiquitous during the early days of the web. The original gif is treated as a single sculptural unit, pulled apart frame by frame before being put back together in various combinations of deviation and obedience to its original purpose.

The results lay somewhere between ornament and object.

The works, form part of a larger, on-going series where repetition, tiling and pattern function as components to extend, build and play with the rhythms of every single divider to create cacophonous fields and shapes of hypnotic color.

Rising Generation features a quote from the final chapter of Owen Jones’ Grammar of Ornament. The quote, which relates to his belief that a new era of Victorian decoration was dawning, is written in a specially made font, originally constructed from rainbow dividers and laid on top patterns and textures taken from the background images of various websites. It is conceived in itself as a web-page and a celebration of the concept of Internet ornament.

As part of Another Infinity, depending on the browser used, the bubblebyte.org main page will rotate or throb as a counter rhythm to the works on display.

The private view attendees will receive a downloadable artifact exclusively created by the artist.

Paul Flannery holds a BA (hons) in Fine Art from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and an MFA from Goldsmiths College, London. Flannery’s aesthetically captivating work, focuses on the internet and its elements of communication and adornment, subverting their functions while observing the logical contexts they belong to. On the 27th of January 2012 bubblebyte.org will celebrate its first birthday!

To mark it’s first anniversary, bubblebyte.org has teamed up with The Sunday Painter in Peckham to host a group exhibition of works by diverse international practitioners who have had solo shows at bubblebyte.org in the past year.

The various spaces of The Sunday Painter will be explored and inhabited by multi-form practices, installations, digital synesthesia and, on the night of the opening reception, LuckyPDF will also curate an exciting visual after-show at the neighboring Bussey Building.

PRIMO ANNIVERSARIO includes installation work by Rob Chavasse, prints by Oliver Sutherland and Laurel Schwulst, digital atmospheres by Oregon Painting Society, Nicolas Sassoon and Duncan Malashock and video installations by Pascual Sisto, Sara Ludy and Sabrina Ratté.

As part of the show, The Sunday Painters website will play host to a special web-based creation by Nicolas Sassoon.

On the same date, bubblebyte.org will also launch Extrabyte a new section on its platform specifically dedicated to encouraging reflection and creating regular content in and around the shows, including essays, interviews, music podcasts and video by artists, curators and practitioners in an attempt to enlarge the critical discourse about the artistic work they present.

bubblebyte.org is pleased to present Activated Memory, a solo exhibition by Canadian artist Sabrina Ratté.

Activated Memory is a two video project based on animated photographs of different parks and buildings of Montreal. Through the use of video feedback, 3D animation and color manipulations, the pictures render a new kind of space, a virtual world where only fragments of "reality" subsist. The music accompaniment  is composed by Roger Tellier-Craig.

In Activated Memory I, a video created for The Download section of rhizome.org, parks appear through a very minimalist form composed by trees and grass. It is a journey through the parks disposal and their interaction with light, almost creating a surreal experience while studying symmetric relationships between various elements like dunes, bridges, lost routes and nature. The park and its imaginary recall childhood visits and the way of looking at things, almost like a hologram of an idealised memory.

Activated Memory II, created exclusively for bubblebyte.org, uses buildings as the main subject of observation. As a counterpoint to parks, buildings are characterised by angular forms and opaque surfaces. Architecture is used as a point of departure to create instability. Buildings discompose their limits into the frame while the geometric original shapes and dimensions of the image loose control to create an entrance to a chaotic space where forms become liquid.

bubblebyte.org is pleased to present Utilizza La Tua Illusione I, a group exhibition by diverse International practitioners incorporating abstract imagery and optical illusion to deform reality and represent animated colorful distorted dimensions. 

The show is inspired by the epic 1993 Guns N’ Roses album, Use Your Illusion I, one of two albums released in conjunction with the Use Your Illusion Tour, the last time that the band ever played together on stage, signalling a turning point in the band and their music.
Use Your Illusion I and its context are a point of departure to celebrate the work of different artists that take inspiration from the 90’s psychedelia and rave culture using abstraction and flashy colors to set parallel realities as an alternative to our current political and economical events. 

The work of Paul Flannery, Sylvain Sailly and Anthony Antonellis, present characters of immaterial geometry and illusion towards the compression and reversion of time and space into a fluid discourse to evade and experiment. Travéss Smalley and Tom Hobson play with our senses re-creating new dimensions in movement while withdrawing inspiration from 3D holograms first designs and multi- layered ways of seeing. Theodore Darst and Samara Scott works, inspired by glitch culture and washed out aesthetics, propose animated mental escapes while the surrealistic work of Adam Cruces is appropriating old narratives to reproduce them through new exits.

Utilizza La Tua Illusione I is constructed as an a-temporal journey with no beginning and no end into a world of bright pastel colors, psychedelia, motion, geometry, surrealism and alter-reality highlighting new forms in contemporary visual expression.
Let the work lead your imaginary and enjoy your evasion.

bubblebyte.org is pleased to present TIDES, a solo exhibition by visual artist and member of online art collective Computers Club, Nicolas Sassoon.

The work of Nicolas Sassoon revolves around the relations between computers, architectures, landscapes and domestic environments. Nicolas’ practice uses the Internet and its online essence for visual experimentation which often takes the form of optical animated gifs.
TIDES, the project conceived for his first solo show at bubblebyte.org, originates from a recent permanence of the artist in Biarritz, a charming city on the French Atlantic coast. The city and its surroundings, the sea and its movements constitute the point of departure for TIDES.
The project features 6 animations inspired from fading memories of the ocean surface and evolve itself through a repetitive aesthetic almost recalling the water pattern and its endless flow.
Every animation in the show is named after a state of the tide, when thin layers of water slowly expand and retreat over large areas of sand creating always new and unexpected forms.

Nicolas Sassoon
Born 1981 in Marseille, France.
Lives and works between Biarritz, France and Vancouver BC, Canada.

Nicolas Sassoon holds a Master’s Degree of Fine Arts/New Media from Ecole Européenne Supérieure de l’Image, Angoulême, France. His work has been exhibited in Europe and Internationally. Recent exhibitions include Is this thing on? bubblebyte.org is pleased to present Angelo’s Game, a solo exhibition by Oregon Painting Society.

Oregon Painting Society is an art collective established in 2007 in Portland, Oregon. The group practice is various and multidisciplinary, focusing on the production of interactive audiovisual environments, recordings, and performances. OPS is compelled by The Mystery to forge possible doorways into impossible worlds. OPS uses transcendent creative collaboration as a method to create performances and different worlds as well as goal for every project.

OPS has spent 2011 crafting a series of installations and performances under the title Angelo's Game. Angelo’s Game is a world populated by beatniks and purple clowns summoning lake spirits at twilight. The fourth instalment proposed for bubblebyte.org will bring the Game into the netted-dimension, warping and spreading Angelo's residue into hyper-shape translations.

Set up as a labyrinth composed of sounds and images, one page leads to the other in a sort of extravagant auto-regenerating circle with no beginning and no end with infinite possibilities. Angelo’s Game has been exhibited widely and internationally transforming itself through time and space, becoming different acts and ideas while constantly generating new visual proposals and experiences.

With a theatrical approach and a visual aesthetic that masters the digital performative language with brilliant ability, OPS lead us to the discovery a new dimension of Angelo's game.
